Scoutmaster and patrol members prepare the sled after arriving at Klondike. Each patrol must carry the required equipment with them on their sled while moving from station to station. A scout prepares kindling to be used for the cooking fire at lunch time. Patrols wait in line at the check-in station. Each sled is weighed to make sure it meets the minimum weight requirement.

Patrols listen to a description of the days events, and safety procedures are clearly explained. The first patrol races for the station #1. (Patrol scores were based on time. Starting times were varied to reduce congestion and increase safety at the activity stations.) Finally, our patrol starts! An assistant scoutmaster heats up lunch for the leaders. (The white on top is frost. We better stoke the fire up if it's going to be thawed by lunch time!) One of the first troops to complete all of the activity stations races to the finish line.
